Tarnish is not a defect. All true sterling silver jewelry will tarnish with exposure to light and the oxygen in the air. That’s why we ship our jewelry in plastic bags inside gift boxes. If you store it that way, it will be safe from light, oxygen, perfume and hairspray and any other chemicals that can tarnish it more quickly.
We recommend Tarn-X Instant Shine for polishing your silver and all precious metals. You can buy it at the grocery store in the detergent aisle, and it comes in a black plastic bottle with white lettering. Just pour a little in a tiny cup, like a measuring cup, and dip your jewelry in for a few seconds. Don’t soak it in the solution. Then wash it in water with a tiny bit of dishwashing detergent, like Dawn. Rinse and dry thoroughly. We let our jewelry sit out for awhile after washing so that the air can dry every tiny crevice.
This cleaning process should not be used for pieces with glued-in stones. Tarn-X can soften the glue. For those pieces, we recommend Blitz dry polishing cloths, which are two cloths sewn together. The inner cloth has tiny mica that clean the tarnish away with little effort, then the outer cloth polishes to a fine gloss. Buy one here.
Please never try to clean silver with steam. Steam works well with gold, platinum and diamonds, but none of our products can be cleaned with steam. Cleaning with steam will invalidate the Silver Messages returns and exchanges guarantee.
